Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Overview
The Coastal Marine Education and Research Academy (CMERA) is proud to offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for select educational programs. CEUs recognize the time, effort, and learning outcomes achieved by participants engaged in non-credit, hands-on marine science education.
What Are CEUs?
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a standard measure used to document participation in non-credit educational activities. One CEU is equivalent to 10 contact hours of instruction or participation in an organized educational experience.
Eligibility
CEUs are available to all participants who:
- Attend the of the CMERA program for the desired number of CEU's. (4 CEU's will be awarded for one weeks participation in the CMERA Shark and Ray Summer Program)
- Actively participate in instructional and field activities,
- Meet all attendance and participation requirements set by the instructors.
CEU Calculation
CMERA calculates CEUs using the following standard formula:
1 CEU = 10 contact hours
Example: A 40-hour program = 4.0 CEUs
Instructional hours include lectures, and guided field research.
Certificate of Completion
Participants who complete the program and meet all requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion that includes:
- Participant name
- Program title
- Total CEUs earned
- Date of completion
- Instructor signature
- CMERA seal (if applicable)
Record Keeping
CMERA maintains internal records of CEU distributions for a minimum of 5 years. Participants may request a digital replacement certificate during that time if needed.
Disclaimer
CMERA is not an IACET-accredited provider. CEUs offered by CMERA are recognized by many employers, institutions, and licensing agencies but may not be transferable to all organizations. Participants are encouraged to confirm CEU acceptance with their specific licensing board or employer.
