Operated by CMERA in collaboration with Moore Marine College and Mundo Marino Aquarium.

Program Dates

  • May 10 – July 4, 2026 (8 weekly sessions)
  • Sessions run Sunday–Saturday

What You’ll Do

Participants work with hatched sea turtles in a professional head-start program focused on two species:

You’ll work alongside Mundo Marino staff and gain experience supporting day-to-day turtle care and conservation operations, including (as appropriate and supervised)

Participants are actively involved daily; specific procedures depend on turtle needs and staff direction.

Important Note on Scope

Participants do not take part in egg collection, nest work, or hatching. This program focuses exclusively on hatched sea turtles already in managed care within the head-start project.

Why Head-Start Conservation Matters

Head-start programs raise young turtles in managed care until they reach a more suitable size for release. This approach can significantly increase survivability during the most vulnerable early life stages—supporting conservation outcomes while providing students with meaningful hands-on experience.
